San Anselmo is one of my favorite Marin towns. It has gentrified considerably since I spent summers here in the late 60's and early 70's, and many of the everyday necessity shops downtown have been replaced by boutiques and cafes. But it retains its small town feel. It is a happy mixture of modern capitalists and 60's anti-establishment boomers. One can find great coffee, gelato, and antiques all downtown. On the outskirts one finds Redhill Shopping Center with all the daily necessities, and United Market, a great locally owned supermarket. The town has a bit of something for everyone.
